Application Process for Advanced Placement Courses for Social Studies

The application process for advanced placement courses in social studies is the successful completion of a series of tiered assignments given the year prior to when the student will be taking the advance placement course. The required number of tiered assignments varies, dependent on the AP course for which one is applying. In addition, teacher recommendations and meeting additional standards on the reverse side of this sheet are required. 

Advanced Placement World History (Grade 10)
·        During freshman year, students in Global I Regents must complete all 6 tiered assignments, earning an overall average of a B for those assignments. An outside reading selection is required as well. 

Advanced Placement United States History (Grade 11) *
·        During sophomore year, students in Global II Regents must complete all 3 tiered assignments, earning an overall average of a B for those assignments. An outside reading selection is required as well.

Advanced Placement European History (Grade 12)   *
·        During junior year, students in US History Regents must complete all 3 tiered assignments, earning an overall average of a B for those assignments. An outside reading selection is required as one of the four assignments.

Students already in AP classes will be assessed based on their work in class.
