Application Process for AP Courses

 

The AP Application process for January is now closed.  Applications were due FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2017

If you are interested in an AP course, and did not submit an application, you should wait until June, 2017 to submit an application.  Applications will be available online at that time.

Application Process for AP Courses

 

AP Calculus

Students taking the prerequisite course, Advanced PreCalculus, will be admitted to AP Calculus AB or AP Calculus BC upon successful completion of the course and consultation with their classroom teachers. Students must:

Part 1:  Meet the grade requirements for the current course. 

Part 2:  Conference with instructor.  If necessary, work on growth in identified areas.

 

Students taking PreCalculus may be admitted to AP Calculus AB through an application process. They must meet the minimum grade requirement and demonstrate competency via classwork in their current course.   Interested students should:

Part 1:  Meet the grade requirements for the current course. 

Part 2:  Conference with instructor.  If necessary, work on growth in identified areas.

 

AP Statistics

Students taking Algebra 2 & Trigonometry,Algebra 2 & Trigonometry A, PreCalculus or Advanced PreCalculus will be admitted to AP Statistics upon successful completion of the course (meeting the minimum grade requirements) and Math Department recommendation.  Decisions will be based upon the year-end grade and the demonstrated competency in class as well as via the Math Application for AP Coursework.

The application consists of the following:

Part 1:  Meet the grade requirements for the current course each quarter. 

Part 2:  Complete the Math Application for AP Coursework by February 3.

 

Part 3:  Conference with instructor.  If necessary, work on growth in identified areas.

 

 

 

AP Computer Science A

All students interested in AP Computer Science A (and who have completed at least Geometry) must complete an application by February 3 The application consists of the following:

·         Part 1: Your experience in your math classes and grades; and

·         Part 2: Describe any experience you have with computers and/or programming, including any course work as well, such as Web Design or Introduction to Computer Programming (include grades in those courses); and

·         Part 3: Write a personal statement discussing why you want to take AP Computer Science A and describe evidence that you can succeed in an AP course.

Students must maintain a B or better in their current math class and have taken Introduction to Computer Science.

AP Computer Science Principles

All students interested in AP Computer Science Principles (and who have completed at least Geometry) must complete an application by February 3 The application consists of the following:

  • Part 1: Your experience in your math classes and grades; and
  • Part 2: Describe any experience you have with computers and/or programming, including any course work as well, such as Web Design or Introduction to Computer Programming (include grades in those courses); and
  • Part 3: Write a personal statement discussing why you want to take AP Computer Science Principles and describe evidence that you can succeed in an AP course.

 

 

 

Decisions for Admission

            Students must meet the criteria outlined above and complete all appropriate work to be considered for AP courses.

Final decisions – made by the Mathematics Department – are based upon the following: a review of the application or assignments, grades in current math class, and recommendations from current and former teachers.
